My volunteer work reflects my passion for sustainability - human and environmental. It's a personal value I've held since childhood., beginning with a scouting principle to "leave a place better than you find it." . For me, Rossmoor embodies this value, and my commitment to community engagement is about enriching and preserving this spirit.
Why I Volunteer: My background in social-oriented academics and career choices, drives me to understand what makes diverse communities thrive and learn to recognize obstacles that create disharmony. From there, the rest is easy!
Roles and Contributions:
- Rossmoor Homeowners Association (RHA): As the Community Engagement Coordinator and Communications Team Volunteer, I've helped build an electronic information network and developed the RHA Presidential Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) program to support local non-profits, helping Los Alamitos high school students leverage their career-building habits of community service. In recognition of their extra efforts, they are able to earn national-recognition, in further support of their high community achievements. Additionally, I support the RHA committees with event planning, manage the RHA social media interfaces, and co-produce and edit written communications (such as event handouts, press releases, and the RHA annual magazine (mailed out to every Rossmoor household).
The RHA, a community group that has served Rossmoor longer than I've been alive, is my anchoring compass, where I invest most of my efforts. Communities thrive when its residents also, do. Aging healthy - physically, mentally, and emotionally is a recipe that can't be beat.
- Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) Citizens Advisory Committee member, Bicycle and Pedestrian Sub-committee, and Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) Accessible Transportation Advisory Committee member: I serve the OCTA identifying community input opportunities, advising on transportation issues, and liaising between the public and OCTA.
- Orange County Historical Commission:As a community advisory member, I serve the OC Supervisors as part of the committee that advises on historic preservation and review items related to the county's cultural heritage.
- Southern California Red Cross Volunteer Services Recruitment Lead: I help implement regional volunteer recruitment strategies and manage recruitment teams on advancing safety principles and activities in the community.
- US Navy Seal Beach Restoration Advisory Board: I review environmental studies and cleanup activities, serving on the committee that liaises between the community and various stakeholder working groups involved in the Restoration efforts on base.
- Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) Social Media Team: I assist in creating outreach materials to expand educational programs for local communities.
- Los Alamitos Parks and Recreation Seniors Technology Outreach Volunteer and Trainer: I develop and facilitate digital literacy training for seniors, helping bridge generational and societal gaps, while creating social opportunities for healthy involvement.
-Los Alamitos/Cypress/Seal Beach Rotary Club: As a member, I support club activities and support administrative processing of grants. I work with high school Rotary Interact Club students helping build community service skills through involving them with service activities, cross-training them with other non-profit agencies where their skills can grow and be put to use as volunteers.
