Candidate Statement:
Community Volunteer
I believe a director’s role is to understand community needs and
desires, then act as an advisor to help the district’s administration
translate those ideas into everyday action. Here is why I ask for your
vote to be one of the five directors for our Rossmoor CSD. My goals
and commitments are to:
- Strengthen the district’s communications with our residents
towards collaboratively seeking sustainable, planned park
improvements. - Restore long-term district planning policies and practices for
shaping our parks’ future, and - Seek opportunities to strengthen and create new public/private
and government relationships to help our community.
We are better, together.
Strong family ties and mutual respect form the backbone of
healthy communities. Being raised by immigrant parents showed
me that families are resilient, and neighborhoods are healthiest
when each works to help one another. My early career was
shaped by these beliefs as a real estate broker. Specializing in
first-time homebuyers during an economic downturn that many
compared with the Great Depression, required teamwork. Many
diverse community stakeholders came together and I learned that
working together towards a common goal, ironically led to superior
individual outcomes, too. What seemed impossible, rarely was.
Along the way, homeownership created an unbreakable sense of
belongingness in communities.
Comparing those experiences to my life in Rossmoor, I gained
a unique perspective when I married into an original-owner
Rossmoor household, which held many of these same values.
Whereas Rossmoor houses are often remodeled or replaced, its
strong community identity never waivers. We share a common
high regard for one another that is uniquely reflected in our daily
lives and memories. Rossmoor’s relationships are still forged in
and around shared activities in our parks. Our Community Services
District bears the important and exclusive privilege of having the
chartered oversight for our parks' operations, plus the responsibility
of planning for sustainable improvements.
As both a resident and elected representative, my commitment to
you is to work tirelessly and collaboratively, seeking each of your
views and desires for Rossmoor's parks and activities. I will also
continue my ongoing service beyond our local community, standing
for Rossmoor and representing our First District as an advisory
volunteer. Go to MaryAnnRemnet.com for more info on me or to
contact me directly. Or you can always find me around Rossmoor
at community events – I'm always meeting new neighbors and am
not hard to find.
